HISTORY OF
RAINFIRE TATTOO

Rainfire Tattoo opened at its current location in May, 2012 by Katia Somerville, who has been tattooing since 2006.

In 2006, at the end of a 10 year elementary school teaching career, Katia met her mentor Rain and her tattoo apprenticeship began. She fell in love with this art form right away, built a strong client base working mostly from a private home studio, attended conventions, and travelled to tattoo with artists in different countries. Her style evolved during this time to geometry, patterns and blackwork tattoos.

In 2012, Katia completed business training and opened the Vancouver studio that is currently Rainfire Tattoo. Her vision was a studio unlike others, with an emphasis on customer service. She wanted to create a space with peaceful energy almost like a 'tattoo spa', keeping in mind the three words: safe, friendly and inclusive.

Now, many years later, she has had the honour to work alongside many amazing artists who have come through the doors of Rainfire Tattoo. Business is thriving, and we currently have a wonderful team of 9 artists and a full time studio manager. We hope you can come get a tattoo and visit us soon. <3

RAINFIRE TATTOO LINEAGE

Our lineage can be traced back over a century ago to legendary tattooists, Bert Grimm and his apprentice Don Deaton (founder and owner of Sea Tramp Tattoo, which is now the oldest existing tattoo shop in Portland, OR). See below for more information on our history and legacy.
